Plan for your Legacy

Below is information provided by the USAFA endowment for use in considering certain aspects of estate planning, including wills and bequesting gifts.  Accompanying this information is the disclaimer that the Illustrious Class Webmasters are not qualified to provide advice; as they are neither attorneys nor have they played them on TV.  Your personal estate attorneys can assist, as well as, the Office of Gift Planning at the USAFA Endowment

The Illustrious Class of 1973 already has a wonderful legacy with the Air Force Academy, and the generosity of class members as the flagship sponsor of NCLS will benefit our cadets for many years. Now class leadership is urging you to consider your personal legacy, to both your family and USAFA.

Have you adequately prepared to provide for your loved ones? A comprehensive estate plan, including health care directives, powers of attorney, and a current will/trust, will cover the exigencies that life will throw at you, and ensure that your wishes are met for your family. A charitable component is also possible, and the class is encouraging your consideration to include a provision in your estate plans to help the Academy.

You will find a variety of materials to assist you:
  • A thorough Estate Planning Guide booklet willed be mailed to every class member

Both in the packet and as links on this page:
  • Ideas for ‘73 legacy gift plans
  • Legal language of bequest intentions for your will’s creation or revision, and an option to amend your will/trust with a codicil, if your will is up-to-date
  • Information about the use of your IRA to make a charitable transfer, and using a donor advised fund, both of which can be beneficial for current donations
  • An invitation to be recognized in the Polaris Society

As you review this material, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Once again, thank you for your support of our Academy.

Sincerely,
Dale Zschoche and Lindsey Cherry
