For those who haven’t been “on campus” lately, there’s a striking new structure on the west side, between the Chapel and Arnold Hall. Designated Polaris Hall, it will house the Academy’s Center for Character and Leadership Development (CCLD). Appearing as a huge vertical stabilizer as you approach from the east, it’s topped by a 105-foot glass and steel tower angled to point at it’s namesake North Star. The angled tower structure includes 966 panes of glass that is nearly two inches thick. Architects Skidmore Owings & Merrill,LLP (SOM), designed it to be an iconic structure second only to the Cadet Chapel.
While not open to the public on a daily basis, arrangements for visiting Polaris Hall can be made by contacting Julie Imada, editor of the Journal of Character and Leadership Integration.
